When is Father’s Day 2011? Future Holiday Dates & Info

Many individuals are wondering when is Father’s Day 2011 scheduled on the calendar this year?  Since dads around the world have made a difference in many lives, it’s important to take the time to thank him this year when you celebrate the day. This year, Father’s Day will be on Sunday, June 19, 2011.

Father’s Day has been a holiday for over one hundred years. It is celebrated in the United States each year on the third Sunday of June. The idea for Father’s Day came from Sonora Smart Dodd, a resident of Washington state in 1909. Sonora and her five siblings were raised solely by their father after their mother died in childbirth, and Sonora wished to honor her father for all that he did for them. The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910. Despite the fact that Father’s Day has been continually observed since 1910, it did not become a legal U.S. holiday until 1972.

Father’s Day was originally more of a religious holiday, with sermons for fathers said in church; as time has passed the holiday has become secular and commercialized. It is very common to give fathers cards and gifts to celebrate. This June 19 makes Dad’s day with tickets to a ball game, take him fishing, or throw a backyard BBQ all in celebration of Dad. But know matter what you decide to do, make sure you take the time to let your father know how much you truly love and appreciate him and all that he has done for you over the years.
